SERVO SCHOOLS AND SEMINARS
ICC offers 2 schools and a two-day seminar on servos.

2 Day Seminar: Working With Servos

Day one of the seminar provides enough theory and exercises to predict how a servo will respond to sine waves and step inputs. It also shows a method of predicting the actual path that two axes of servos will follow at a corner.

Day two of the seminar investigates the many interface concerns when applying a servo. Discussed are backlash, windup, coulomb friction, static friction, resolution, duty cycle, stiffness, inertia, and thrust. Methods for calculating and compensating them are described. Also discussed are manual and computer sizing of drives and motors.

School One: Basics of Industrial Servo Drives

This 3 day school of half-days is intended as an in depth introduction to industrial servo drives. A servo is defined and terminology is discussed. The most popular types of drives, motors, and amplifiers are covered. Drive performance criteria are review ed and specifications of performance are discussed. Analyzing and troubleshooting techniques for the more common servo and drive problems are outlined.

School Two: Advanced Application of Industrial Servo Drives

This one-week school of half-days was developed as an in-depth treatment of servos for those with servo experience or those who have attended school 1. It covers characteristics and transfer functions for critical servo elements. Theory and practical cons iderations in analyzing a servo loop and selecting components are discussed. Compensation techniques, performance criteria, mechanical considerations, and sizing are also treated in detail.
